How does payment for lessons work?

It's very simple! Everything is done month-to-month or lesson-to-lesson with no long term contract. Depending on the teacher, you can pay via Venmo, CashApp, cash, or check. Monthly plans are paid on the 1st of each month (some teachers require auto pay via the CoinHop App). Single lesson (à la carte) plans are paid at the beginning of each scheduled lesson.

For more details regarding payment plans visit the Rates Page. To view actual prices, visit each teacher’s unique GLP page under the “Locations” tab above.

Are there any additional fees?

Not really!  The only additional cost to lessons would be curriculum fees like special books or materials recommended to help the student reach their goals.  Also, be aware of the cancellation fee if you are paying Lesson-to-Lesson (à la carte). Visit the Rates Page for more details.

Do I need anything besides a guitar?

Yes, but not much!  The only additional equipment that may be necessary is a music stand, pick, capo, tuner, and potentially a foot stool (for classical guitar).  This can all be discussed in the first few lessons and varies from student to student depending on the styles he/she would like to study.

What is the basis for the Guitar Lesson Pros curriculum?

GLP teaches techniques and theories of the various styles that each student is most interested in learning.  This could include the ability to read music notation, advanced ear training, rhythmic development, ensemble skills, songwriting/compositional tools, improvisation, chord theory, advanced guitar neck theory/visualization techniques (such as CAGED system and modes), scale/interval theory, understanding keys via circle of fourths/fifths, drop 2 chords, jazz chord pools, and much more.

Songs are chosen based on the skill level and stylistic interests of each student.  From there, various aspects of technique and musical theory will be broken down and then built upon within each song that follows.

For younger students, the approach is similar but with a longer timeline and a greater focus on developing a proper foundation of left/right hand mechanics.  All things technical are balanced with patience and encouragement toward each student as they develop the necessary skills to play the styles of music that inspire them.  At any point along the way, curriculum can be adjusted to accommodate new interests or goals the student may have.

Are make-up lessons offered?

Yes, absolutely! We are as accommodating as possible in this regard and understand the challenges of busy work and school schedules. However, due to the challenges of scheduling make-up lessons on top of regular lessons, most of our teachers only offer make-ups (for same-day cancellations) to students on the 4 Monthly Plan. For these students, one make-up lesson is offered per month for “same-day” cancellations. Students on the 3 Monthly Plan will forfeit any lesson cancelled the day of. And students paying lesson-to-lesson (à la carte) will be charged a $15 fee (rather than the full lesson value). Of course, in all of these scenarios, if there is some sort of unavoidable emergency, please work things out with your teacher. We are friendly and understanding people and want to help as much as possible! These policies are in place due to limited availability of time slots and to encourage consistency. It also helps protect our teachers from scheduling and payment abuse. Visit the Rates Page for more details on the GLP teaching schedule and make-up policies.

Is West Nashville the only location for lessons?

Not anymore! We now have locations in Germantown, Hermitage, and South Nashville near Harding. However, if this is still not a convenient location for you, we do offer In-Home or Skype lessons! Derick Hill, Aaron Kessler, and Andy Kahrs provide a mobile lesson service to most Nashville Metro areas and Jesse Devine does the same for most of Hermitage. These lessons can be scheduled at a time that works best for you in the comfort of your own home. For In-Home lessons just add $10 for each time the teacher will be driving to your location (this does not include surrounding suburbs like Brentwood or Bellevue which will be priced and arranged on an individual basis). We also offer Skype lessons which have become a popular choice for many busy students, families, and working adults worldwide.

Does Guitar Lesson Pros host recitals?

Yes! We currently organize one recital per year for any student that is interested in performing.  It is not mandatory for students but highly encouraged!  The first annual Guitar Lesson Pros recital was held in June 2014.

Are you currently hiring teachers?

Another yes! If you are an experienced instructor and think that Guitar Lesson Pros might be a good match, please feel free to contact us. That being said, we do take the hiring process very seriously and undergo various interviews, background checks, and location assessments to ensure that students will receive the highest quality education. All instructors must have ample performance and teaching experience. We like for teachers to have a personal approach to curriculum development and the ability to adapt various styles for various ages. Guitar Lesson Pros also provides a core curriculum of its own which can be incorporated if you want. If you are a specialty teacher in a certain genre, that can be ok too. In these instances, Guitar Lesson Pros would only assign students who are interested specifically in that style. For more info, contact Trevor Willmott at guitarlessonpros@gmail.com or 859-948-3339.
